Level: Beginner

Description: This is an introductory workshop to the WIDA English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards. Participants will learn how to use ELP Standards as a tool to help ELLs develop academic language abilities and access the content of academic subjects. Participants will receive a copy of the WIDA ELP Standards and a binder with materials that will help them implement the content of the workshop in their schools and classrooms.

Objectives - Participants will:

  • Use the WIDA ELP standards for differentiation in the instruction & assessment of ELLs;
  • Apply scaffolding techniques for the linguistic development of ELLs that are appropriate for their language level;
  • Integrate language and content standards in planning, instruction and assessment;
  • Use language assessment in educational planning and instruction of ELLs.
