Policy Guidance

Policy makers have the difficult task of weighing the benefits and drawbacks of different programs, dealing with stakeholder groups having many different perspectives, and then making decisions about how to implement and support selected programs. Often, there are conflicting opinions. Many times there is insufficient information. Almost always guidance on how to best select programs, projects, or procedures is welcomed. This focus of this area of research is to provide policy guidance that can inform decision making for policy makers dealing with English language learners and English language learner programs. Currently two areas have been examined: Annual Measurable Achievement Objectives or AMAOs and the relationship between English language proficiency standards and academic content standards.
