World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment

Teacher Development

When all is said and done, teachers are the connection to the student. Standards, assessments and curricular materials are of little value if teachers cannot or do not know how to implement them. Well trained and prepared teachers are critical in helping students improve their acquisition of English and academic achievement. The WIDA Consortium along with its partners provides a variety of professional development activities. WIDA is also responsible for implementing the “Literacy in Assessment and Data Designed for Effective Results for English Language Learners” or the LADDER grant. WIDA’s professional development and LADDER activities are designed to improve educators’ instructional practices. The focus of this area of research is to investigate the efficacy of these activities.
