NEW ACCESS for ELLs® Sample Items! (12/18/08)
WIDA is pleased to release a new set of ACCESS for ELLs® sample test items for grades 1-12. For the first time, sample items are now available to the general public to foster awareness of how this English language proficiency assessment operates. This understanding will benefit all stakeholders in the education of English language learners, from students themselves and their families to teachers and administrators, as well as professors training future teachers.
The publication is formatted to showcase how ACCESS for ELLsŪ test items relate directly to the WIDA English Language Proficiency Standards upon which they are based, creating a system that allows teachers to use the ELP standards in conjunction with test results to target the language objectives that students need to advance their proficiency.
This publication is not in any way equivalent to a test form and should not be used for assessing students. In future years, we will be releasing more items to fill out the range of grade levels, proficiency levels, domains, and content areas that are addressed in the assessment.

ACCESS for ELLs®
ACCESS for ELLs® stands for Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners. This large-scale test addresses the academic English language proficiency (ELP) standards at the core of the WIDA Consortium's approach to instructing and evaluating the progress of English language learners. To alleviate any confusion, the WIDA ACCESS Placement Test (W-APT)™, more aptly known as a screening tool, has a different purpose and format from the ACCESS test. ACCESS for ELLs® Test Administration Training
Online ACCESS for ELLs® test administration training and certification is accomplished by logging in to our online course 
. Click on your state's name in the green menu on the left side of this screen to find out more about getting an account.
