Maureen Keithley
Maureen Keithley comes to WIDA from the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) where she served as a Title III - LEP/Immigrant Consultant. Maureen received her B.S. from Illinois College, Jacksonville and her M.S.Ed. from Western Illinois University, Macomb. In 2003 she became a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT), Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood - English as New Language. Her prior experience as a mainstream teacher, ESL teacher, district Title III coordinator and at the State Education Agency (SEA) equips Maureen to have a multi-dimensional approach when providing technical assistance and professional development to WIDA states.
Every couple of years Maureen travels internationally to one of the home countries of the United States' immigrating populations. She feels this provides greater empathy and understanding for our nation’s immigrants, both of their culture (language included) and motivation for leaving their homelands. Her travels have taken her with humanitarian and/or educational organizations to Bosnia, Cuba, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malawi, Mexico, Russia and Zimbabwe. Most recently, she has been a member of The College Board 2008 Chinese Bridge Delegation (June 2008).
